City training
Munich
A dog does not have to be perfectly obedient to live well in the city. But they do need to learn how to navigate a world full of people, other dogs, traffic, different undergrounds, sounds and constantly changing situations.
That is what city training in Munich is about.
We train where your everyday life actually takes place: on pavements, in parks, at busy intersections or on buses and the U-Bahn. Your dog should not only know what to do in a quiet training environment – they should also be able to cope when a bicycle suddenly passes by or another dog appears around the corner.
Passing other dogs calmly
For many people, the main goal is simple: to finally be able to walk past other dogs calmly.
Your dog does not need to greet every dog they meet. In fact, being able to notice another dog and continue walking unchanged is an important skill in city life.
Perhaps your dog pulls towards every dog. Perhaps they become overexcited or bark. Or perhaps you simply want dog encounters to feel safer and more manageable.
We look at what makes these situations difficult for your dog and develop strategies that work for both of you.
Loose-leash walking in real life
For me, loose-leash walking does not mean that your dog has to walk perfectly beside your leg for the entire walk.
It is about being able to move through Munich together without the lead constantly becoming a source of conflict.
We can work on:
relaxed walking on lead
orientation towards you
switching between open spaces and narrow situations
waiting calmly
dealing with distractions
passing people, bicycles and dogs
The individual dog always matters. A young dog has different needs from an adult dog, and an anxious dog has different needs from a highly excitable one.
Travelling by bus and underground
Public transport is simply part of everyday life for many people in Munich.
For dogs, however, it can be a real challenge: people passing close by, doors opening and closing, unfamiliar noises, movement and very little opportunity to create distance.
We can gradually practise travelling by U-Bahn and bus.
For example:
How can my dog wait calmly on the platform?
How can we get on without creating unnecessary stress?
Where can my dog settle inside the carriage?
How can we deal with crowds or other dogs?
This training isn’t about enduring a difficult situation right from the start. We build up the difficulty step by step so that your dog can always handle them.
Recall and off-leash freedom
A reliable recall creates both freedom and safety.
We therefore do not simply teach your dog to respond to a cue. We build orientation and reliability step by step.
Distractions such as interesting smells, people or other dogs can gradually be introduced. Depending on your dog and their current level of training, we may initially work with a long line and later practise recall under controlled conditions off lead.
Of course, not every dog can safely be off lead everywhere. Safety always comes first.
Munich is our training environment
The great thing about city training is that we do not have to create artificial situations.
We can practise exactly what you encounter in everyday life.
The walk to work.
A walk through the park.
Passing another dog on a narrow pavement.
Taking the U-Bahn, tram or bus.
Sitting in a café or restaurant.
Calmly waiting in the hustle and bustle of the city.
My goal is not the perfectly behaved city dog without their own needs. My goal is for you and your dog to feel safe and as relaxed as possible while moving through Munich together.
